Internship Programme on “Anthology of Tribal Literature in Kerala”

1. Introduction

The cultural landscape of Kerala is enriched by the presence of numerous indigenous communities whose traditions, knowledge systems, and literary expressions reflect a unique worldview shaped by nature, memory, and collective experience. Tribal communities in Kerala—including groups such as the Paniya, Kurichiya, Adiya, Kattunaikka, Kuruma, Muthuvan, and others—have historically preserved their histories, myths, songs, narratives, and social philosophies through oral traditions. However, much of this cultural heritage remains under-documented or scattered across different sources.

The Internship Programme on “Anthology of Tribal Literature in Kerala”, organised by Bookmanier, aims to introduce participants to the literary and cultural traditions of Kerala’s tribal communities and to contribute to the documentation and compilation of these materials in the form of an anthology. This initiative is designed as an academic and creative engagement that encourages students, researchers, and literature enthusiasts to explore tribal histories, narratives, memoirs, biographies, art forms, and documentary representations.

Through a structured 120-hour internship, participants will gain exposure to the interdisciplinary study of tribal knowledge systems and literary expressions. The programme combines guided reading, archival exploration, documentation, analytical writing, and collaborative editorial work. By participating in this initiative, interns will contribute to preserving indigenous narratives while developing research and documentation skills relevant to literary and cultural studies.

The internship will run from 6 April 2026 to 29 May 2026, providing participants with an opportunity to engage intensively with the subject matter within a short but focused academic schedule.
